Recurrent credit card payments, fundamental to business web hosting, have struck an ugly snag with the latest round of bank/credit card providers requirements.
Banks now require that all credit card transaction include the CVV/CVN security code (you know, the 3-4 digit number on the back of the card).
Credit card providers will not allow CVV/CVN codes to be stored.
This effectively breaks the monthly automated payment processing routine that most hosting companies use.
A simple alternative is for payments to be handled as Paypal subscriptions. This is a workable arrangement, but does not provide for incidental charges to be invoiced and charged for in the monthly cycle.
Hopefully Aussie payment gateway eWay will create a solution that allows their tokenised payments system to wok with hosting payment automation in the very near future.
